  1. Madeleine says:

I bought 16 place settings of this pattern to replace a Noritake set that I had for 15 years. The pattern is beautiful but within weeks many of my plates (dinner and salad) and bowls chipped (in 15 years only 1 Noritake plate and bowl chipped). I called Mikasa directly and they refused to do anything. They said there is no warranty for this pattern. Needless to say, I will never purchase anything Mikasa again.

I bought these last minute, mostly because of the reviews and was afraid I might not like them, but I ended up liking them very much. This is a casual but versatile set. The dishes were packed well, a box within another box, within another box, plenty of cardboard between each dish. I expected to find a few flaws or chips or bumps in the glaze, but I found none. Colour is not as white as the picture shows, more of a stock card manilla cream colour – and they feel good to touch, smooth, glossy, and light weight for stoneware. I am glad I made the purchase, they are nice to have. The size of the bowls are large, and work for pasta, salads, cereal, soup, even vegetable servings. The dinner plates are 11 1/4″ in diameter, fairly normal sized dinner plate, had no issue fitting in my cupboard.

  3. This addition rounded out my 12 piece set of the dinnerware including numerous accessory pieces purchased over the last 3 years. Durable, nicely detailed, versatile. It goes with the most casual outdoor BBQ to a formal dinner. I always receive compliments on it. The dinner plates are a bit bigger than most. Not a drawback for me, but the large sized dinner plates may be a tight squeeze into a small dishwasher. If that’s the case, ditch the dishwasher and buy the Mikasa!

  4. I’ve been married for almost 13 years, and this is our second set of casual dinnerware. We have had these dishes for probably 7 or 8 years. I replaced them because the Crate and Barrel earthenware dishes that I had started getting these gray lines on the plates. Well, now these dishes are beginning to get the gray lines. The lines look like cracks. I know that some people are happy to see their dishes going south so they can get new ones, but I just want them to last, esp. a classic pattern like this. I’m not buying earthenware (the softest) or stoneware (second softest) anymore. If you want these dishes to last a few years, go for it. But if you are looking for casual dinnerware to last 20 years, find something else.

I do love the pattern – white but with some detail. The dishes look delicate and elegant, which I love. These can go casual or dressy, and there are plenty of pieces to go with your place setting.

  5. These dishes are really beautiful… had I not already owned fine china I don’t think I would have bothered with getting a set of fine china in addition to these. There are many, many optional pieces that match and the prices are very reasonable. My grandmother has owned the French Countryside Mikasa pattern for about 12 years and none of her dishes have chipped. However she purchased the set that comes with teacups and saucers rather than mugs, and rimmed bowls rather than cereal bowls. I find this particular version to be much more functional for everyday use.

Now, after having received 3 boxes of this dinnerware as well as several serving pieces for my wedding (I actually registered here on Amazon so everything was shipped by Amazon to me), only one box of dinnerware came with broken pieces. One box came with paper packing only on one side and when I contacted Amazon, they sent me a replacement set the very next day. The representative even went a step further and told me to disregard the original instructions to ship back the box with broken pieces and to dispose if it at my convenience. I was able to salvage a few pieces from the broken box and now have several extras for my set! All of the other boxes were packed well and I didn’t have problems with any other shipments.
